How treatment works

Tattoo pigment is placed into the dermis (the deeper layers of the skin) The laser sends energy into the dermis and fragments the tattoo pigment into tiny pieces which then enables the body to eliminate the ink particles through the lymphatic system.

Getting lasered is just the start of it, your tattoo will keep fading for weeks, even months after your session.
Your immune system keeps working to clear the ink.

Immune health is key, factors that boost your immune system, like good circulation, healthy diet and exercise and detox methods can help speed up the fading process.

A complete removal process usually requires an average of 6 to 12 sessions depending on the tattoo type, location and area on the body.
Because the body needs time to flush out the pigment and for the skin to heal, sessions are typically spaced 8 to 12 weeks apart.

After care

Following treatment the skin should be cooled, we recommend using an ice pack on the treatment area 3x per day to sooth and cool the tattoo and surrounding skin. The area can feel like it is slightly sunburnt at first.

Apply a soothing recovery cream such as aloe vera, paw paw cream or Stratamed cream can be used if prone to scarring. Do not pick or scratch the area.
If blistering or crusting occur, keep area covered until fully healed.

Avoid sun exposure for 2 months after the procedure and cover with SPF 30+ if necessary to be in the sun, if continuing treatment keep area out of the sun until treatment is finished.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt?

Tattoo removal feels similar to a splash of hot oil or an elastic band flick on the skin, although the feeling can be painful/uncomfortable it is over quickly and soothed with ice.

Can all tattoo colours be removed?

Mostly, yes. Darker inks such as black and red respond more effectively and quickly. Some lighter colours such as yellow and white aren't as effective and can take more visits to achieve full removal, the same applies to blue, green and purple which require a different wavelength and hand piece for removal.

What if I just want a cover up?

If cover up is the goal then usually only 1-3 sessions of laser is required, because Major Laser is based within The Olde English Tattoo Parlour we can not only help you with the removal side but can provide you with an experienced artist to create a great cover up piece once your skin is ready to be tattooed again.

Can you remove only part of my tattoo?

Yes, we can remove as much or as little as required, both our laser and technician use precise accuracy and skill to target specific areas of the tattoo.

Does Laser removal cause scarring?

The chances of scarring from laser removal are rare, especially if you follow the aftercare instructions provided by the technician. Scarring usually only occurs during recovery when the area isn't protected from outside elements or is scratched/picked at.

Can I have treatment at Major Laser if I've started treatment elsewhere?

Yes, we have had many clients come to us after experiencing dissatisfaction with other laser companies, our laser provides a fast and effective treatment option and so we are always happy to pick up where others have left off.

Can you remove a brand new tattoo?

Yes, this is possible however we recommend that you allow time for your tattoo and skin to heal before starting treatment, approximately 8 weeks after its been applied.

Who can't have laser tattoo removal?

Laser tattoo removal is generally safe, but it is not recommended or requires special precautions for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with a history of keloid scarring, those taking photosensitizing medications (like Accutane), or individuals with uncontrolled autoimmune and bleeding disorders.
